Dr. Stephanie Hirsh Elected to AdvancED Board of Trustees

Alpharetta, GA, July 22, 2013 – Dr. Stephanie Hirsh, Executive Director of Learning  Forward—a membership association solely devoted to advancing professional learning for  student success, was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees for AdvancED, the world’s  largest education community.

As a board member, Hirsh will help establish the strategic direction for AdvancED, oversee  the provision of accreditation services to educational providers and review and approve the  annual budget and policies and procedures that guide the work of the organization.

Hirsh joined Learning Forward (formerly the National Staff Development Council) in 1988  as Deputy Executive Director. Under her leadership, Leaning Forward is a strong advocate  for collaborative professional learning for educators from teachers to school system  administrators. In 2011, Learning Forward released the latest revision of the Standards for  Professional Learning to guide policy and practice in professional learning.

As Executive Director, Hirsh has overseen new projects aimed to support educators  implementing Common Core State Standards (CCSS) such as the Transforming Professional  Learning to Prepare College- and Career-Ready Students: Implementing the Common Core initiative.  This initiative is focused on developing a comprehensive system of professional learning that  spans the distance from the statehouse to the classroom and also will strengthen the capacity  of large urban school systems, state education agencies and Learning Forward state affiliates  to advance CCSS implementation.

“Dr. Hirsh has been a longtime advocate for professional learning and believes in the use of  standards to guide a commitment to excellence in education. We are very proud to have her  serve on the AdvancED Board of Trustees. Her extensive experience in education and  expertise in maximizing our most precious resources—educators— will help guide the  mission of our organization,” stated Dr. Mark Elgart, President/CEO of AdvancED.
