AdvancED and My Student Survey Announce Strategic Partnership to Improve Student Engagement

ALPHARETTA, GA.—April 4, 2016—AdvancED® and My Student Survey® today announced a strategic partnership to provide a powerful multi-metric solution to measure and improve student engagement. AdvancED, the world’s leading expert in school improvement and accreditation services, and My Student Survey, a leading provider of rigorously researched surveys, are combining their expertise to provide never-before available insights into what is happening in the classroom.

AdvancED and My Student Survey provide complementary services to local schools, school systems and education agencies with the mission of improving education for all students. The AdvancED eProve Effective Learning Environments Observation Tools™ (eleot™) measures and quantifies active student engagement through learner-centric classroom observation. My Student Survey’s Survey of Teacher Practice (STeP) provides valid and reliable student voice data on teaching and learning practices. These two learner-centric improvement tools align to create a combined insights report of actionable data to inform and improve instruction and student engagement.

"We are thrilled to partner with AdvancED in providing a rigorously tested method of measuring classroom level student engagement. By combining data from eleot's certified observer program with valid and reliable student voice data from our Survey of Teacher Practice (STeP), educators will now have access to a more complete picture of the student experience in their classes,” said Ryan Balch, founder and CEO of My Student Surveys.

Under the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), states must incorporate at least one non-academic factor—such as student engagement—in their accountability systems. “States that are serious about improving academic outcomes for students must find reliable ways to measure and improve student engagement,” said Dr. Mark Elgart, CEO and president of AdvancED. “AdvancED’s partnership with My Student Survey will enable states and educational institutions to use empirical data to assess how well students are engaged in their learning and act upon these data to improve teaching and learning.”
