Chief Research Officer

Professional background:
Dr. van Broekhuizen joined AdvancED in 2012 and serves as the Chief Research Officer. The Research Division leads research and development for the organization including the ideation of all products and processes for continuous improvement and accreditation. 

Before joining AdvancED, he was Executive Director of SERVE Center at the University of North Carolina Greensboro where he was instrumental in procuring a multi-year contract of nearly $40 million with the US Department of Education to operate the Regional Educational Laboratory for the Southeast. 

Dr. van Broekhuizen’s past achievements include the development of an online early reading intervention for English Learners and serving as Senior Evaluator for the first national evaluation of the federally funded Star Schools Program and Partnerships in Education Program. He is fluent in several languages and holds degrees from the University of Oregon and the University of Amsterdam. He has life-long K-12 teacher certification to teach Spanish and English in the Netherlands. 

Best aspect of elementary school:
I learned to love reading. I remember asking the school librarian, “How many books can I check out at one time?”
