While I had the opportunity to teach every grade in high school, I found freshman World History to be the most enjoyable. Freshmen came to class with a level of impressionability I did not experience with the other levels. In my experience, freshmen were in constant search of both an understanding of the world around them and personal affirmation as a maturing adult. When these two dynamics were intentionally fostered in the classroom, an openness of thought and a potential for formation was created that was unique indeed. To share this time with them, to see them learn and grow at this critical juncture in life, was both an honor and a privilege.
