Welcome A Message from the Staff of the Virginia Office Welcome to the Virginia State Office Web Site of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). Two offices serve Virginia SACS CASI and are located at Radford University and the Virginia Department of Education in Richmond. Hilda C. Kelly, state director, serves out of the Richmond office, and Dr. Patricia Golding, associate state director, serves out of the Radford office along with DeDe Alderman, administrative assistant.
In April 2006, SACS CASI unified with the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE) to form AdvancED. As a result of the partnership, AdvancED is the world's largest education community. It serves and engages 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 65 counties, educating 15 million students. In the Commonwealth of Virginia, SACS CASI accredits private and public elementary, middle, and secondary schools in 106 school districts.
The Virginia State Council and staff provide technical assistance to private and public elementary, middle, and secondary schools and districts accredited by SACS CASI. Some of the services include professional development opportunities, training for Quality Assurance Review team chairs and members, and coordinating the selection of chairpersons, team members, and dates for external reviews.
Through AdvancED, NCA CASI and SACS CASI have defined shared, research-based accreditation standards that cross state, regional, and national boundaries. In addition to the standards, there is a unified accreditation process designed to help schools continually improve. AdvancED is dedicated to advancing excellence in education through accreditation, professional services, and research.
Thank you for visiting the Virginia SACS CASI Web site. Please contact one of our state offices if you would like additional information.
