South Dakota NCA CASI accredits 152 schools in the state of South Dakota in 139 public elementary, middle, secondary and unit schools and 13 non-public schools serving about 60,000 students. There are currently three districts in the state engaged in the AdvancED District Accreditation Model, and these districts include Meade, Lennox and Vermillion.

South Dakota NCA CASI has a long history of collaboration with the University of South Dakota (USD) in Vermillion. The state director in South Dakota has been a shared position as a faculty member at USD and the South Dakota NCA CASI State Director. In addition, USD houses a program assistant and serves as the regional office for the five-state region of Iowa, North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The South Dakota Department of Education (DOE) works closely with NCA CASI in the area of school accreditation. The AdvancED/NCA CASI Continuous Improvement Model fulfills the state education improvement process requirement for state accreditation. South Dakota NCA CASI also is a partner in the statewide System Change Conference held annually in mid-November and provides other regional workshops and technical assistance opportunities throughout the year.
